Project Overview

The Nevelson Tiles installation anchors the lobby of KPF’s new Manhattan office with a bold and meaningful gesture. Inspired by the sculptural language of Louise Nevelson, the project reinterprets her iconic style through an architectural lens unique to KPF. Each panel, crafted from rift-cut white oak, was precisely milled on CNC Router, hand-sanded to a clean finish, stained black, and sealed with a flat clear coat to subtly reveal the wood’s natural texture. The tile patterns themselves draw inspiration from the facades of buildings KPF has designed or contributed to over the years, creating a deeply personal and textural tapestry of the firm’s architectural legacy. Together, the Nevelson Tiles form a layered, dynamic surface that celebrates material craftsmanship, memory, and the expressive potential of architecture.
