Project Overview
Installed in a private residence in Boston, Helix by Alyson Shotz is a dynamic sculpture that explores form, light, and balance through elegant precision. The work is composed of a series of iridescent acrylic-clad PVC-core plates. Carefully rotated by fixed degrees, the plates grow gradually from small to large at the center before tapering back to smaller sizes, creating a spiraling, organic motion frozen in space. The sculpture’s structural integrity is achieved through a central steel square tube, welded to a steel base plate and anchored to a patina-finished steel pedestal. The shifting iridescence of the acrylic surfaces interacts constantly with sunlight and movement around it, giving the Helix a vibrant, ever-changing presence within its architectural setting.
