The DUMBO Reflector is a striking sculptural landmark installed beneath the iconic Manhattan Bridge Archway in Brooklyn. Featuring the word "DUMBO" spelled out in large-scale letters, the installation captures the spirit and creative energy of the neighborhood in both form and material. Each letter is fabricated from #8 mirror-polished stainless, giving the sculpture a vibrant, reflective presence that constantly shifts with its surroundings. The faces of the letters are clad in iridescent acrylic, designed to change color depending on the angle of view, adding a dynamic, kinetic quality to the piece. The letters are mounted on stainless steel vertical posts at varying heights, aligning with the diagonal motion of the original DUMBO logo, and creating a sense of movement and rhythm across the installation. A key technical challenge — concealing the heat marks from the internal LED lighting — was overcome using a carefully engineered diffuser with specific thickness and density, allowing the sculpture to glow cleanly and evenly at night without compromising its polished surfaces. The DUMBO Reflector serves as a playful, ever-changing beacon for one of Brooklyn’s most vibrant communities.
